Businesses might have names, logos and websites, but ultimately they’re built by people. And real life tends to carry on around us.
Part of life at Starstream Data, and mine in particular, includes my four-legged friend who could probably best be described as lovely, cuddly and a somewhat questionable member of the security team.
Meet Sammy, our Chief Access Tester.
He’s particularly good at testing access to areas he probably shouldn’t be in, keeping a close eye on anything happening within his territory, and investigating anything that moves without prior authorisation. He loves a nap too.
Whether he’s conducting an impromptu inspection, looking at things from a different perspective, or simply sticking his tongue out at whatever threat has caught his attention, Sammy has been a constant presence in my life through the good days and the more challenging ones.
So, while you won’t find him answering the phone (no thumbs) or joining a strategy meeting anytime soon, we’re officially classing him as an unofficial member of the team.
He’s taken the appointment entirely in his stride. On his terms, of course.
So far, we believe the responsibilities he has chosen include:
- Attending meetings without contributing
- Conducting unexplained inspections
- Monitoring windows, doors and suspicious birds
- Testing access to any room that appears to be closed
- Sitting directly where work needs to happen
- Enforcing extraordinarily strict break policies, primarily for himself
- Taking security very seriously, provided the threat is small and moving
- Providing an unscheduled out-of-hours alert service, usually just as you’re falling asleep
Below is a small collection of Sammy carrying out some of his most important work:
